MTPD Cadet Program
The Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD), in collaboration with Employ Prince George's Cadet Program is designed for high school graduates who aspire to pursue a career in law enforcement. The program offers a unique blend of direct police training, educational opportunities, and income-earning potential. The program is officially recognized as an apprenticeship in the State of Maryland, providing formal credentials to participants. Cadets will gain practical experience in police work while earning college credits toward an associate degree in criminal justice or related field. The program prepares cadets to begin the process of becoming sworn officers with Metro Transit Police Department. The program duration is two years. Employ Prince George's will cover tuition and books for Prince George's County residents only for the first year of schooling. Applicants residing outside of Prince George's County are eligible for the program. MTPD may consider partial tuition reimbursement for those residing outside of Prince George's County upon written request.

Salary: $39,000
Requirements:
- Must have a high school diploma or GED.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Be a US citizen, by birth or naturalization.
- Applicants must be between 17 years and 9 months and 21 years and 6 months old at the time of application. Additionally, candidates must be at least 18 years old by their hire date.
- Must successfully complete all background check standards.
- Must be a Prince George’s County resident at time of application and maintain residency throughout employment as a police cadet for funding assistance to be provided by Employ Prince George’s.
- Those residing outside of Prince George’s County are eligible to apply, however MTPD may consider partial tuition reimbursement for those residing outside Prince George’s County upon written request.

- Candidates who successfully complete the prescreening process may receive an invitation to participate in a job interview.
