Bilingual Teaching Assistant (Carlos Rosario)
Through this 5-month program, advanced English language learners (ESL level 8 or higher) are prepared to become certified teaching assistants as an entry into a career in education. Our bilingual teaching assistants typically gain employment in DC schools working with a classroom teacher to support instruction, especially for students whose first language is not English. Schools currently employing our program graduates include: Mundo Verde, EL Haynes, LaSalle Backus Education Campus, Elsie Whitlow Stokes, and others. Participants in the program will earn both a Seal of Biliteracy, to demonstrate literacy in English and another language, as well as the Parapro exam certification, a nationally recognized certificate. The course consists of more than 200 hours of combined in-class instruction, and a paraeducator apprenticeship in the K-12 or Adult Education. Classes are hybrid at the Sonia Gutierrez Campus- Monday-Friday: 9:00am-11:30am
