DC Fire and EMS Cadet Program

The Fire Cadet Program is a one-year program that provides District of Columbia residents, between the ages of 18 and 21 years old, the opportunity to become members of the D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department (DC FEMS). During the program, Cadets attain their National Registry EMT, Firefighter I & II, and Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations certificates. The Cadets participate in a department rotation where they are exposed and acclimated to all aspects of the DC FEMS Department.

Salary: $30,472/year

Requirements:

Be a D.C. resident
Be 18-21 years old at the closing of the application date
Have a D.C. Public, Charter, or Private high school
diploma or a G.E.D.
Have had an accumulative high school grade point
average (G.P.A) of at least 2.0 or equivalent
Have a minimum of a valid learner’s permit at the time of
application submission and obtaining a driver’s license before
completing the Cadet Program”

Application Requirements:

Complete application
Completion of a personal history application (Blue Book) and supporting documentation
Criminal background check/ fingerprinting
Submission of driving record from the D.C. Department of Motor Vehicles
Physical/ psychological examination and drug-screening performed by the Police and Fire Clinic
Verification of United States Citizenship and Selective Service Registration (Males only)
Complete a written examination”
